The Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography, a public cultural institution under the authority of the Cluj County Council, in partnership with the Transylvanian House of Traditions, invite you on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 5:00 p.m., to the opening of the exhibition “Riant poppy flowers, fragrant tulips. Contemporary replicas of the ceiling boxes painted by carpenter-painters from Komárno”, which will take place in the Cellarium Gallery (21, Memorandum street).
Éva Ament, folk craftswoman, teacher of traditional painting on furniture, has been documenting the traditional wood painting for 30 years, and she believes that organizing the materials into centres is one of the most interesting tasks. Her old desire was fulfilled when, together with her students and fellow artists, she managed to make replicas and reconstructions of the most representative examples.
The ecclesiastical works of Komárno carpenters are characterized by a high level of technical skill and refined design, and they are also role models for contemporary furniture painters. The exhibition recreates the works of 19 masters from Komárno - or of their direct apprentices - with the help of ceiling boxes, balcony facade boxes or benches.
The exhibition will be open from August 20 - September 3, 2024.
