National Contest "PHOTOGRAPHY - ETNOGRAPHIC DOCUMENT" (F-DE), XXI Edition
From 10 to 27 October 2024, at the Ethnographic Museum of Transylvania , the public is invited to discover the universe of the contemporary Romanian village through the works of the prestigiousexhibition National competition "PHOTOGRAPHY - ETHNOGRAPHIC DOCUMENT" (F-DE).
More than 150 recent ethnographic photographs can be admired on the wall hangings and in digital sections projected on a monitor in the Reduta room of the Ethnographic Museum of Cluj.
The works were taken by dozens of photographers from Romania, Poland and Wales, who travel the country constantly, passionate about the Romanian village. The competition jury selected the photos to create a picture of a village that still preserves some of its traditions or endeavours to revive them.
The images captured were defining images of the occupations and customs of Romanian, Hungarian, Secler, Czech, Czech or Saxon village communities in most ethnographic areas of Romania, such as traditional plough ploughing, shepherding, egg-laying, egg-shaking, scything, Fărșangul or the "Moșilors' custom".
The opening and prize-giving ceremony will take place on Saturday 12 October at 12 noon in the Reduta Hall of the Transylvanian Ethnographic Museum, 21 Memorandumului Street. The opening performance will be given by the professional orchestra "Cununa Transilvană" of the CJCPCT Cluj, conducted by Tudor Căucean.
The competition was held in four main sections: author photography with a free ethnographic ethnographic black/white and colour theme, photography section with the theme "The Wheel" and the section of reproduction from old photographs.
F-DE is at the heart of a large-scale project of the same name in Cluj, which aims to promote traditional culture through travelling exhibitions and ethnographic photo albums. So far, F-DE has been presented in over 20 cities in Romania and abroad: Poland, Serbia, Hungary, France, Italy and Canada.
The national competition "PHOTOGRAPHY - ETNOGRAPHIC DOCUMENT" isorganised by the County Centre for the Preservation and Promotion of Traditional Culture Cluj (CJCPCT Cluj), in partnership with the Ethnographic Museum of Transylvania Cluj-Napoca and Art Image Association.
