The exhibition "Residencies in Remarkable Romania" is a framework for the works produced as a result of the 22 artistic residencies organized in the last two years by the Clujean Cultural Centre, within the community development program of the Remarkable Romania network.
The opening of the exhibition takes place on Wednesday, October 30, from 12 noon at the Ethnographic Museum of Transylvania.
The photo exhibition brings to the forefront moments captured during the artistic residencies held in 2023 and 2024 in the 12 municipalities of the Remarkable Romania network. The involvement of artists in community processes resulted in artistic productions that have become part of the local cultural identity.
The artistic residencies, having an open format, were centered on research, documentation and working directly with the community, creating a unique opportunity for contemporary artists to develop their artistic practices in relation to rural heritage, contributing to the exploration of new forms of expression in the interpretation of heritage.
The "Remarkable Romania" program explores the relationship of 12 rural communities with village identity elements, aiming to identify, valorize and transform tangible, intangible and sensorial heritage elements within the network into relevant experiences for today's consumer.
"Through the active involvement of communities, the word 'remarkable' comes to life in different forms, from themed events to cultural-tourist trails, developed around rural heritage and the stories people tell, to centers for highlighting these elements, which are called Points of Collective Memory.
In all this, the active involvement of local community members is crucial, with people being the main focus of the program. It is through their eyes that we see the meanings of traditions from which we urban dwellers have distanced ourselves, and it is from them that we learn the authenticity and simplicity of a life lived in the rhythm of nature.
But the fragility and vulnerability of the Romanian village forces us to be delicate and motivates us to act on several levels in our attempt to "immortalize" what is about to disappear. Thus, the Remarkable Romania programme has created a favourable context and the ideal framework for the organization of artistic residencies in the villages of the RR network, aiming to raise awareness and interest in contemporary arts in rural communities."
